Year 10 Science Experiment – YUM!
In our Science lessons we find lots of ways to make it fun and enjoyable. In the past term, the Year 10's from South Campus and Wellington Campus collaborate and do some exciting experiments with our teacher, Mr Sutton. We share what we see and have learnt from the experiment over Zoom, from this we can learn more from each other. Us Invercargill Year 10's really enjoy these hands-on experiments.
On Friday last week the South Year 10s did a Science experiment using confectionary. The aim was to find out the structure of atoms and how ions are created.
We used a variety of tools/ingredients, which included M&M's, Skittles, marshmallows, skewers, and modelling clay, as well as paper diagrams. All were crucial to completing the exercise.
The lollies were in different colours which helped us separate the different electrons. For example, oxygen electrons and hydrogen electrons. This was helpful as we could see the structure and how it worked clearly.
