Hello South Campus,
The more you witness the students and teachers working at the school the more you realise how fortunate we all are (grandparents and parents included) to be part of OneSchool Global, and to experience the expertise that comes from being part of a global school.
With the end of the term not far away we would like to urge all students to keep focused right up till the last day especially those students going after those NCEA credits. Good to see some positive results coming through.
We had the privilege of having the Year 13 students through our workplace on Wednesday and was impressed with their interest, and the feedback from our staff was very positive. Trust the Year 13 students learnt lots and are full of enthusiasm about getting themselves more ready to enter the workforce next year.
These cold mornings have caused a few issues so would like to remind all to be extra careful. Thanks to Carl Malcolm’s help, hopefully now with de-icing liquid on the ground outside the Gore Campus, Miss Gilbert and Mrs Scott won’t need to lay out the cardboard for the students to walk on in the morning.
Trust everyone has an awesome last week at school next week.
Steve McLean on behalf the CA Team.
On Wednesday the Year 13 students participated in a National Zoom where they were given excellent advice for their preparation for applying for jobs, entering the workplace and participating in a workshop guiding them how to create high quality CVs and cover letters that will allow them to stand out from the crowd. Students had an opportunity to visit three businesses, meet employers and employees working in a range of different roles. This experience was incredibly motivating for our students who took everything in, asked great questions and some who returned to school with a clearer idea of what kind of job they would like to have. Some of the key messages that the students took onboard were, start at the bottom and work hard, and where you start your work journey is not necessarily where you will end up. Students noticed very clear similarities as to how they learn at school to how they will work in business. We were very fortunate to visit businesses in our local areas who put a lot of effort into preparing this day for our students and we must give a special thanks to Alpine Buildings, Webbline and AdvanceQuip in Gore and Harrows, Alpine Building and Totalsite in Timaru.
